Supporting the Disabled

Each legislator in Utah serves on a budget committee. During my entire time of service in the Utah legislature, I have served on the Social Services budget committee. One of the things I have come to learn is that we have many significantly-disabled individuals in our state who are eligible for assistance but have been placed on a waiting list that sometimes stretches over 20 years. These are individuals who need help with even their most basic needs such as eating, dressing, and getting to the toilet. I have worked hard to get funding to get more of these individuals into services and to make sure that the programs we have in the state can continue to function.

In 2023, I was honored to be chosen as the “Legislative Champion” of the Coalition for People with Disabilities. These individuals and their families face circumstances that are almost unimaginably difficult and they are deserving of our help.
